Facebook SEO Case Study #1
A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about the importance of social media in search engine marketing and how Bing has begun incorporating Facebook in the search results. I also mentioned how Google was quick to follow with their announcement of social search being added worldwide to their search engine. I now have firsthand proof that Google really does care about Facebook posts and rewards those who are using this powerful social media site.
Check out this screenshot that was taken today:

As you can see, the Facebook post circled in red is ranking on the First Page of Google for a market specific keyword phrase that we are targeting for our client. Actually, we have 2 roofing clients in this market which you can see they both rank in the #1 and #2 positions. The #1 position, Eclipse Roofing, is also ranking for this keyword term from a Facebook post! That’s right, the exact same post that is ranking #1 we posted to the company Facebook account, and voila, 1st page ranking!

We know this isn’t a super competitive keyword phrase but if you look at the First Page results in Google you will see that many competitors’ actual websites are below the Facebook post of our client! What does this mean? Basically that we are awesome! Ha, but in all seriousness it means that we created such a highly optimized blog post that not only did Google love it enough to put it at #1 but it loved it enough to rank it twice! It didn’t even have any Facebook “likes” – we simply posted it to the Facebook account and the company Twitter account, that’s it! Literally that process probably took us 2 minutes tops and resulted in a First Page ranking in Google. So who is going to argue that social media is worthless for local businesses? No one!
Ironically today in my Google Alerts I received an article titled, “How to SEO Your Facebook Page.” It gives some great tips on how to improve your Facebook Page for SEO purposes. You can read the full article here:
Ok so once again the take home from this blog post: If you aren’t using social media in your online marketing efforts you need to start NOW! We don’t even claim to be so-called “social media experts” – we just implement social media into every client campaign. And by implement I mean we take 2 minutes to share our blog posts with Facebook (and Twitter and LinkedIn).
The question now becomes why aren’t you using social media?
