How To Send LinkedIn Messages That Get Replies
May 20, 2025 - 1 minute read - LinkedIn, LinkedIn Strategy, LinkedIn Tips, Mod MarketingMost salespeople completely blow it when it comes to LinkedIn messages.
They accept a connection request and then…
1. Drop a cold pitch
2. Or… say nothing at all
LinkedIn isn’t for cold pitching. It’s for conversation-starting.
So what should you do?
Use this simple, proven message flow that actually starts real conversations:
Step 1: Send a Real Connection Request
Keep it human. Use their name. Mention something personal or relevant.
Example:
“Hey Alex, loved your post yesterday on onboarding sales teams. Would be happy to connect.”
Step 2: Wait
Give them time. Let them accept naturally. Don’t pitch immediately.
Step 3: Follow Up with a Simple, Curious Message
Use a short text, voice note, or video.
Example:
“Great to connect here, Alex. Noticed that [observation]. Curious — is your team using LinkedIn much for prospecting?”
This sparks conversation without pressure. The goal isn’t to sell in the DMs, it’s to learn.
Once you know you can help, then you earn the right to suggest a meeting.
